SDSU World Wide Web Policy

San Diego State University - October 21, 1996

Each World Wide Web server will have a designated web manager (webmaster). Individuals who create a home page are responsible for the appropriate content of their personal home pages on that server.

The guidelines found in the World Wide Web Style Guide for SDSU create a consistent, attractive and professional image for the University. All World Wide Web developers are encouraged to adhere to these guidelines.

Appropriate use policies for campus computer accounts apply to home pages, including policies regarding commercial use, copyright, and harassment. Usage must be in accordance with applicable State and Federal laws. Among the more important laws are the California State Penal Code, Section 502, the Federal Computer Abuse Amendment Act 1994, and the Federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act.

Any department, college, or auxiliary home page should be regarded as representative of the University, as if, for example, it contained an SDSU electronic letterhead.

Individuals who become aware of inappropriate content on a home page may notify the web manager of that World Wide Web server, who then is responsible for notifying the author, and if necessary, the University of the concern about home page content/style. The web manager upon authorization from the University or individual will then delink the home page from the General Index. If the content requires immediate action, the complaint may be escalated through the normal University channels.
