- 1. FINDING INFORMATION: How do I find something within the SDSU World Wide Web site?
- Various information about SDSU is availble through our web, and some is still under development. If you are unable to find information from the main catagories on the SDSU Home Page, try using our SDSU WWW Search facility.
- 2. EMPLOYMENT: What employment opportunities are available at SDSU?
- The Center for Human Resources updates the available Open Staff Positions page on a regular basis.
The San Diego State University Foundation Human Resources Department has job opportunites posted as does the SDSU Foundation Navy and Student Services Contracts Module.
- 3. STUDENT E-MAIL ADDRESSES: How do I find e-mail addresses of SDSU students?
- There is no on-line directory for students at SDSU. Our main academic computer is rohan.sdsu.edu which can be queried with the internet finger function.
An index of Student Home Pages is available.
Faculty and Staff phone numbers and e-mail addresses are available in our On-Line Directory of Faculty and Staff.
- 4. ADMISSION: How do I apply for admission to SDSU?
- Information about admission to SDSU can be found at Prospective Students on the main SDSU home page.
- 5. CLASS ROSTERS: Where do I find Electronic Class Rosters?
- Class Rosters may be found on the World Wide Web at https://www.sdsu.edu/roster/.
- 6. HOME ACCESS: How can I run Netscape (or access campus computers) from my computer at home?
- To access the World Wide Web from a personal computer at home, you will need SLIP or PPP dialup access from an Internet service provider. San Diego State University provides full PPP services to faculty and staff and limited PPP services for students. Students wishing connectivity can use Aznet which provides full internet access in addition to SDSU specific services such as local USENET groups and site licensed software downloads.
Contact the department of Network Services by calling 594-5261 for further information, or visit the Network Services help center on campus located in the Business Administration and Mathematics building room 116.
- 7. TACACS: What is TACACS and why should I care?
- TACACS is an authentication system used to validate users in a network environment. San Diego State University uses TACACS to validate SLIP and PPP access to the campus network. A valid TACACS account is required to use remote access services provided by the department of Network Services. Call 594-5261 for further information.

STUDENT AFFAIRS:
Student Affairs departments may obtain an account on www.sa.sdsu.edu. For information about the Student Affairs set-up and approval process, contact the coordinator of the Student Affairs Web Developers Group in the Student Rresource Center via E-mail at keith.parks@sdsu.edu.

- SDSU sanctioned Student Organizations may obtain an account on rohan.sdsu.edu through their Faculty Advisor and establish a web page. - 12. CHAT LINES: How do I set up a chat line for my ROHAN web page?
- Chat lines are not allowed on ROHAN as part of a web page.
- 13. WEB COUNTER: Can I have a counter on my web page?
- The counter on www.sdsu.edu has been discontinued. Google Analytics is a more accurate replacement for this capability.

and replace YOUR_URL with the one for your page, the counter will appear on your page.
- 14. PAGE REGISTRATION: How do I register a web page (get it linked from the SDSU Home Page)?

- 15. FORBIDDEN ERROR: Why do I get a forbidden error on my ROHAN web page?
- You need to make the necessary permissions for your web-related files in your directory, otherwise web clients will receive the Forbidden error (Client does not have permission to get URL ....). Your directories must be set for World Execute and the files set to World Read. For more information, see instructions on setting permissions.
- 16. FILE NOT FOUND ERROR: Why do I get a file not found error on my ROHAN web page?
- When you receive the file not found error (The requested URL ... was not found on this server), it usually means your web page file is NOT named "index.html" (the default name).
- 17. FTP DAEMON: How do I set up an FTP daemon for my student web page on ROHAN?
- It is not possible for you to set up a ftp daemon on your ROHAN account. This service is available to SDSU Faculty only.
- 18. FORMS ON ROHAN: Are forms available for ROHAN web pages?
- The mailto: and the finger forms are available on ROHAN. Users can create additional forms using cgi. For additional information on cgi, see http://rohan.sdsu.edu/pagecreate.html#CGI
- 19. IMAGE MAP ON ROHAN: What do I need to do in order to use an image map in my ROHAN web page?

- 20. HELPER APPLICATIONS: When trying to access the Library Lion Catalog I get an error message:"unable to launch application, error code 5". How can I fix it?
- It sounds like you don't have your helper application set up in Netscape. Set your Telnet application to the appropriate Telnet application (i.e. NCSA Telnet for Macintosh, TN3270 for DOS).
