Financial Aid Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for summer financial aid, you must:

  • Complete online Summer Counseling, accessed via AidLink. Once in AidLink, click on the Summer 2007 tab and follow the directions.
  • Be a continuing, matriculated student from the spring 2007 semester or a newly matriculated student who plans to enroll at SDSU for the fall 2007 semester.
  • Be enrolled at least half time in the SDSU State Supported Summer Session to be eligible for a Federal Direct Student Loan. (For undergraduate and teaching candidates, half-time enrollment is 6 units. For classified and conditionally classified graduates, half-time enrollment is 5 units). To be considered for a Pell Grant or State University Grant, you must be enrolled in at least 1 unit.
  • Have filed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid for the 2006-07 year and the 2007-08 year and have had the application information sent to SDSU. You must also have an Award Notification from the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships for each year. Federal regulations limit the amount of Pell Grant and Direct Loan that you may receive within a single year, which means that your summer eligibility is related to the amount of aid you receive during the preceding (or subsequent) fall and spring semesters. Your summer financial aid eligibility will be based on either your remaining eligibility for 2006-07 or will be an advance of your eligibility for 2007-08. If you choose to receive an advance of your 2007-08 Pell Grant and/or Direct Loan to help cover your summer educational costs, your fall 2007 and/or spring 08 semester Pell Grant and/or Direct Loan eligibility must be reduced accordingly.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. If you are not making satisfactory academic progress at the end of the spring 2007 semester, you are not eligible for summer financial aid.

After you have completed online Summer Counseling via AidLink, the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will electronically notify SDSU’s Office of the Registrar and University Cashiers Office that you are eligible for a summer registration fee deferment.

Beginning in late May, and after you have enrolled in summer session, the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will review your eligibility and notify you of your summer session financial aid eligibility.

If you use the financial aid fee deferment and do not receive summer financial aid for any reason, YOU must pay your summer registration fees using your own funds.

Disbursement of Financial Aid and Scholarship Funds

All financial aid and scholarship payments are processed and disbursed by:

University Disbursements Office
Student Services West, Room 2536
(619) 594-6422
disb@mail.sdsu.edu
www.sdsu.edu/sfs

Disbursement for summer session typically begins in July. Sign up for Direct Deposit and receive priority when disbursements are made. Choosing Direct Deposit means that your financial aid or scholarship refund (the amount after institutional charges are deducted) may be deposited directly into your personal checking or savings account at your bank. Information and application forms are available on the Student Financial Services Web site or in the office located in Student Services West, Room 2536. If you do not sign up for Direct Deposit, your funds will be mailed to you in the form of a check.

San Diego State University will use your summer financial aid and/or scholarship funds to pay your summer registration fees before releasing any remaining funds to you. If you owe the university for any charges from a previous term, such as residence hall charges or a financial aid over-payment, disbursement of your summer financial aid will be placed on hold until you resolve the outstanding charges.
