Financial Aid Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for summer financial aid, you must:
- Complete online Summer Counseling, accessed via AidLink.
Once in AidLink, click on the summer tab and follow the directions.
- Be a continuing, matriculated student from
the spring 2008 semester or a newly matriculated student who plans
to enroll at SDSU for the fall 2008 semester.
- Be enrolled at least half time in the SDSU
State Supported Summer Session to be eligible for a Federal Direct
Student Loan. (For undergraduate
and teaching candidates, half-time enrollment is 6 units. For classified
and conditionally classified graduates, half-time enrollment is 5 units).
To be considered for a Pell Grant or State University Grant, you must
be enrolled in at least 1 unit.
- Have filed a Free Application for Federal Student
Aid for
the 2007-08 year and the 2008-09 year and have had the application
information sent to SDSU. You must also
have an Award Notification from the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships
for each year. Federal
regulations limit the amount of Pell Grant and Direct Loan that you
may receive within a single year, which means that your summer eligibility
is related to the amount of aid you receive during the preceding (or
subsequent) fall and spring semesters. Your summer financial aid eligibility
will be based on either your remaining eligibility for 2007-08 or will
be an advance of your eligibility for 2008-09. If you choose to receive
an advance of your 2008-09 Pell Grant and/or Direct Loan to help cover
your summer educational costs, your fall 2008 and/or spring 2009 semester
Pell Grant and/or Direct Loan eligibility must be reduced accordingly.
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress as
defined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
If you are not making satisfactory academic progress at the end of
the spring 2008 semester, you are not eligible for summer financial
aid.
After you have completed online Summer Counseling via AidLink, the
Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will electronically notify SDSU’s
Office of the Registrar and University Cashiers Office that you are eligible
for a summer registration fee deferment.
Beginning in late May, and after you have enrolled in summer session, the Office of
Financial Aid and Scholarships will review your eligibility and notify you of your
summer session financial aid eligibility.
If you use the financial aid fee deferment and do not receive summer
financial aid for any reason, YOU must pay your summer registration fees
using your own funds.

Aid and Scholarship Funds
All
financial aid and scholarship payments are processed and disbursed by:
University Disbursements Office

disb@mail.sdsu.edu
www.sdsu.edu/sfs
Disbursements Options:
Direct Deposit: Sign up for Direct Deposit and receive priority when
disbursements are made. Disbursement for the summer session typically begins in July and continues throughout the summer as new awards are processed or changes to awards
occur.
- Choosing Direct Deposit means that your financial aid or scholarship refund
(the amount after institutional charges are deducted) may be deposited directly into
your personal checking or savings account at your bank.
- Sign up on line at the Student Financial Services Web Site.
Mail: if you do not sign up for Direct Deposit, any funds not used to pay university charges will
be mailed to you in the form of a check beginning in July or as your
financial aid funds become available. Checks are mailed to the address on file with the Office
of the Registrar as indicated in your WebPortal account.
Disbursement Notification: The University Disbursements Office will send you an e-mail notice when we:
- release your funds to pay university charges of registration fees (and housing)
- directly deposit funds to your bank account (the quickest way to get your funds)
- mail a check (if you are not signed up for Direct Deposit)
University Charges: San Diego State University policy is to apply financial aid and/or
scholarship funds directly to charges for the semester's registration fees, residence hall
charges, and other institutional expenses (including financial aid overpayments) before
releasing funds to you.
Student Account Services Online: For online payment, billing and account
services, log on to Student Account Services on the Student Financial Services Web site.
View your "transaction history" to see how your funds were disbursed and applied toward your
university charges.
Before funds can be disbursed, you must be enrolled at least half time and you must resolve
any financial aid and cashier's holds affecting your aid. For some types of aid, you may need
to complete additional information before disbursement of funds.
