Open University Summer 2008
The Open University program allows students from other universities,
working adults, and high school graduates to attend regular university
classes once SDSU students have registered and classroom space is still
available.
You can select from courses offered in SDSU's summer program. The registration
process is easy; university admission is not required. These classes
are offered on a space-available basis only. SDSU cannot guarantee a
space or that you will be accepted into any class. Instructors are not
required to accept Open University students even if space is available.
Credit: The credit you earn is non-matriculated resident credit. Twenty-four
units of Open University credit may be applied toward an SDSU undergraduate
degree. For graduate students, not more than nine units of coursework
taken in Open University prior to admission to an advanced degree or
advanced certificate program are acceptable on a program of study.
Note: Open University classes are not available to SDSU matriculated
students. International students on the F-1 or J-1 visa are
prohibited from enrolling in Open University courses without proper
authorization from their international student adviser. Financial aid
is generally not available.
Please Note: Undergraduate students who have been disqualified from
SDSU will not be allowed to attend Open University or classes through
the SDSU College of Extended Studies' Special Sessions until one year has passed from the date of their disqualification.
Graduate students will not be allowed for one semester following disqualification.
FOUR EASY STEPS TO REGISTER:
Check the schedule for the courses in which you want to enroll.
- Obtain the Open University enrollment form and information sheet
from Extended Studies or academic department offices. Forms are available
one week before the semester starts. DO NOT USE THE FEE PAYMENT
COUPON IN THE SDSU WEBPORTAL.
- Attend the first class to obtain the instructor's
signature. Instructors are not permitted to sign forms before the first
day of class when they can determine
space availability. Please do not ask instructors to sign forms before
this day. Extended
Studies will not accept forms before the registration dates below.
- If your course is in the Colleges of Business, Education, Engineering,
Health and Human Services, or Professional Studies and Fine Arts, you
must also get the department chairperson's approval signature on your
form. Graduate courses in the College of Business require approval from the Director
of Graduate Business Programs, Student Services Bldg., room 3428. See
the back of the registration information sheet for specific departments
requiring signatures.
- Bring or mail signed and completed forms with payment to
Extended Studies by deadlines below. Mailed forms are considered received
as of the postmark date. We accept cash, checks, MasterCard, Discover
Card, American Express and Visa. Cash is not accepted after 5 p.m.
or on Saturdays. Faxed forms cannot be accepted. Fee is $197 per unit.
