"Building on Excellence” focuses on three broad institutional goals: Student Success, Research and Creative Endeavors, and Community and Communication. The plan also provides a Resource and Revenue Plan to support the attainment of the identified goals. As we begin the implementation phase of the strategic plan, the participation of our community will be critical to success and we encourage you to continue to be part of the conversation and the process.
To date, the university has allocated more than $74.4 million in one-time funds and more than $19.3 million in base budget funds to address critical support needs and strategic plan initiatives identified in the planning process. For more information on how funds were invested for each goal, please see the links below:

We have begun the second year of implementing the university's strategic plan, "Building on Excellence." Over the last year, we have made significant progress in the three focus areas - Student Success, Research and Creative Endeavors and Community and Communication - identified in the plan. The strategic plan website provides detailed information about the university's investments. Moreover, the strategic plan website provides a detailed account of the progress made in 2013-2014 as well as the summary reports for each of the working groups. It also provides a detailed outline of our goals and priorities for 2014-2015.
Significant milestones from year one of implementation include the opening or initiation of the Arts Alive SDSU Initiative, the Aztec Mentor Program, the Aztec Scholars program to support the recruitment and retention of historically under-represented students, the Commuter Resource Center, Faculty Recruitment in the areas of research excellence, the Get Together, Give Back program supporting faculty and staff morale, the Honors College, the Pride Center, and the Writing Center, as well as the expansion of the University Grants program, Zahn Innovation Center, the Student Research Symposium, and college-level resources to support student international experiences. Significant pilot projects have also been undertaken in the areas of integrative diversity, learning analytics, national branding and marketing, neighborhood outreach, enhancing campus climate for persons of varying abilities, and the recruitment and retention of under-represented faculty. Important steps were also taken to support increases in faculty and staff compensation with the provision of funds for in-range progressions for staff and the faculty Equity II program. More information about these and other selected accomplishments. We thank all involved for their contributions and look forward to sharing additional updates in the near future.

Progress Update: January 21, 2014
We continue to make significant progress on the university's strategic plan, "Building on Excellence." To date, the university has allocated more than $27 million in one-time funds and $11.7 million in base budget funds to address critical support needs and strategic plan initiatives identified in the planning process. Based on recommendations from the strategic plan working groups and contingent on enrollment/revenue initiatives, we anticipate allocating additional one-time funds to support the plan's initiatives this semester.
Significant efforts have also been undertaken to discuss the plan with members of our community. Discussions with faculty, staff, students, administrative leaders, alumni and community leaders occurred this fall and will continue in the spring. These discussions provide an important opportunity to create community dialogue around the initiatives outlined in the strategic plan.
The strategic plan website maintains a record of the plan's ongoing initiatives. While space limitations precludes a comprehensive listing here, the opening of the Pride Center and the Commuter Research Center (both on January 22nd), the kickoff of the SDSU Arts Visibility Initiative, the expansion of the Zahn Center, and the inaugural celebratory event for faculty and staff all represent important milestones.

Progress Update: July 8, 2013
The university has allocated more than $21.3 million in one-time funds and $11.7 million in base budget funds to address critical support needs and strategic plan initiatives identified in the planning process. One-time funds are a combination of funds that were allocated in 2012/2013 and funds that were allocated in 2013/2014.
Broadly-representative cross-divisional working groups are being convened to support the attainment of a number of the goals outlined in the plan. In some cases, extant groups will fulfill this role. In other cases, new groups will be constituted. These groups will be responsible for recommending and executing initiatives to help the university attain the goals articulated in the strategic plan. Each group will have broad representation from the University Senate and appropriate university divisions. To ensure accountability, each group will be chaired by a senior administrator who will report to either the Provost or the appropriate divisional Vice President.
