Strategic Plan Working Groups
As we move into the implementation phase of the strategic plan, cross-divisional groups
will support the attainment of a number of the goals outlined in the plan. In some
cases, extant groups will fulfill this role. In other cases, new groups will be constituted.
These groups will be responsible for recommending and executing initiatives to help
the university attain the goals articulated in the strategic plan. Each group will
have broad representation from the University Senate and appropriate university divisions.
To ensure accountability, each group will be chaired by a senior administrator who
will report to either the Provost or the appropriate divisional Vice President. The
material below describes the goal, divisional reporting and Chair of each group identified
to date.
Working group: Recruitment and Retention of Underrepresented Students
Goal: Invest funds to increase the recruitment and retention of under-represented
students through targeted recruitment and outreach to inform students of exceptional
programmatic and co-curricular opportunities

Goal: Invest in the recruitment and retention of under-represented faculty and staff
through targeted activities

Working group: Commuter Student Success
Goal: Promote commuter student success based on results of an in-progress needs assessment
by the Divisions of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs, with relevant support and
resources and in association with the established Commuter Student Lounge of the Conrad
Prebys Aztec Student Union

Goal: Provide diverse educational experiences for all students by leveraging our campus’s
rich diversity. Integrate diversity initiatives in support of these goals.

Goal: Convene a cross-divisional task force to review, assess, and implement additional
support for programs addressing the negative academic and personal consequences of
abuse of alcohol and other drugs.

Goal: Convene a broad-based task force of faculty and staff to evaluate approaches
to integrating learning analytics and the student information system to allow timely
interventions that promote student success at course and curricular scales.

Goal: Strengthen internship and mentoring programs to foster students’ professional
development by working collaboratively with our alumni to create an alumni network

experiences to 30% within five years by providing funds for support services.
