About the Major

Sociology is the scientific study of social life. It involves research and analysis of social problems and examination of the function, development, and structure of society. Diverse topics are covered in this program: family, health and illness, immigration, education, race and ethnicity, social movements, sport and society, criminology, and urban sociology. 

Program Highlights

The program emphasizes the study of social inequality and social movements. Students have the ability take a minimum of 12 elective units as part of their degree, allowing them to focus on an area of their interest. Many students combine sociology with a related minor, such as counseling and social change or sport and society.
