COVID-19 vaccinations are required for San Diego State University students, faculty and staff to access campus facilities in fall 2021, following policy set by the California State University system to help keep all members of the campus community safe.

As in-person classes and operations return to SDSU, this policy supersedes a previously announced requirement. The policy is also not contingent upon action by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

This is what you need to know about the COVID-19 vaccine requirement for the fall:

Upload your documents

All students, faculty and staff are encouraged to upload COVID-19 vaccination documents through the HealtheConnect portal no later than Monday, Aug. 16.

Instructions for students can be found here. Government-approved vaccinations received by international students in their home countries will be accepted at SDSU.

Information for faculty and staff, including details on how to submit an exemption request, can be found online.

Vaccinations Offered at SDSU

All three vaccines in distribution in the U.S. (Moderna, Pfizer/BioNTech, Johnson & Johnson) can be obtained for free at SDSU’s Student Health Services, and are available for international students.

To schedule an appointment, go to the HealtheConnect appointment portal.

Vaccines also are widely available throughout San Diego County, with and without appointments. The County of San Diego maintains a website to help find a COVID-19 vaccination site.

An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine.

Testing Options Are Available

Students, faculty and staff who are not fully vaccinated are required to comply with weekly testing and additional mitigation procedures until they are fully vaccinated. This includes members of the SDSU community with an approved medical or religious exemption from the vaccination requirements; there is no exemption from the testing requirements.

Individuals who have recovered from COVID-19 or show positive results from an antibody test are still subject to the vaccine requirement.

The weekly testing requirement remains in effect at least through Sept. 30, when it will be reevaluated based on conditions in San Diego County. Exemption requests for students and employees must be submitted before Aug. 16.

Student Health Services offers COVID-19 testing at no cost, including for students not subject to mandatory testing requirements.

In addition, the County of San Diego has reopened its COVID-19 College Area test site at SDSU. Testing is available at the Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center, 5250 55th Street, Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Appointments are not required.
