Tech giant Google has identified San Diego State University as a target for internship recruitment and is conducting special events this week, citing the university’s high graduation rate and Hispanic Serving Institution and First-gen Forward Advisory Institution designations.

Members of Google’s university outreach team, in collaboration with Career Services, are hosting a series of on-campus career workshops and events through Thursday, Oct. 12, with the goal of recruiting applicants for their internship programs.

Google employees, or “Googlers,” are sharing their experiences in navigating college, talk about their current roles and provide advice for students who are interested in becoming Googlers themselves. Their internship recruitment efforts are focused on students who have an interest in either computer science, software engineering or business.

The “Google at SDSU” lineup of events includes two panel discussions, an information session and a technical interview workshop. The series concludes on Thursday with an application party in which students can work on their internship applications for the Student Training in Engineering Program (STEP), Software Engineering Internship (SWE) or the Build Opportunities for Leadership & Development (BOLD) Internship Program with the guidance of a Googler.

Google is offering SDSU students these opportunities:

Student Training in Engineering Program (STEP)

STEP is a 12-week paid internship program for first and second-year undergraduate students who have been historically underrepresented in tech and have a passion for computer science.

Software Engineering Internship (SWE)

The SWE internship is a 12-week paid internship for third-year undergraduate students who are interested in computer science.

Build Opportunities for Leadership & Development (BOLD) Internship Program

The BOLD Internship Program is a paid summer internship for students who are interested in working in non-technical career opportunities at Google. Students who are currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s degree program and graduating between December 2024 and June 2025 are eligible to apply.
