Awardees Lizbeth Figueroa and Jacqueline Santana, part of a cohort of 57 graduates of the SDSU Imperial Valley Division of Education, want to have an impact in the region where they earned their credentials.

“Return of the Kumeyaay Creator,” found in front of the library at SDSU Imperial Valley, Calexico, tells the story of Maayehaa, the Creator God Spirit.

The fundraiser, which runs through Nov. 30, directly benefits the Imperial Valley food pantry.

The award designates SDSU as one of only 20 Prevention Research Centers nationally. The center's research focus is community-based heat mitigation strategies for vulnerable rural and agricultural communities.

At the annual All-University Convocation, attended by hundreds of faculty, staff and student leaders, SDSU President Adela de la Torre said the university is standing up for its historic mission, core beliefs and community engagement.
