International Student Advisory Board

SDSU Students:
  • Have you ever wanted to share your experiences and insights with staff at the ISC?
  • Do you enjoy advocating on behalf of international students across campus?

The International Student Advisor Board may be an excellent opportunity for you. This program helps you develop unique skills by participating in board member meetings where you’ll have the chance to consult with staff members and advocate across campus.

How it works
At its core, the International Student Advisory Board is focused on bringing together dynamic community builders drawn from a broad spectrum of campus organizations, affiliations and networks to ensure advocacy and support of international students at SDSU. The board will actively provide feedback to the International Student Center and campus partners focused on international student services and programming. Board members serve as campus liaisons that represent the International Student Center and the international student population it serves.
 
Eligibility
Board members should be from a variety of international student populations. Ideally, board members will be: 
  • engaged in various campus communities
  • leaders of student organizations, SDSU employees, or club leaders
  • effective communicators
  • proactive 
Additionally, board members will include students from a variety of visa types and educational levels 
  • F1 first Year, F1 Upper Division, F1 Graduate, J1 One-Year Exchange Student, California resident)
Selection process
Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements listed above will be selected based upon:
  • Ability to communicate effectively in their interview
  • Ability to view issues and events at SDSU from the international student perspective
  • Previous experience with community building, advocacy and consulting
Member Responsibilities and Expectations

Board members should be engaged, student leaders. They typically serve in other capacities that support the SDSU community, such as working on campus or taking up leadership roles in student organizations. They will provide valuable feedback regarding the SDSU international student experience and will strategically discuss ways in which the experience can be elevated. 

The members are asked to commit to attending once-a-month meetings facilitated by ISC staff. Members will be asked to share insightful feedback and solicited information during board meetings and from serving as advocates of international student success. Members will also actively engage online through our shared community in Discord.  

Goals and Responsibilities

  1. Represent the ISC and our international student community across SDSU and the ISAB
  2. Liaison across campus for international students
  3. Provide feedback on current programs and services
  4. Solicit information that will inform your advocacy here at the ISC
  5. Actively engage in our online Discord community 
How to apply
Applications to be an Intercultural Ambassador take place at the beginning of each Fall Semester. Applications and responses are screened by the selection committee and interviews are arranged for the finalists.
